Hmm. The ghost that's with her dad might be a twisted representation of his desire to protect/watch over his daughter. And he eventually gets consumed or becomes one with it if he doesn't let go of his lingering attachments.

Either way, I wasn't expecting to suddenly be hit with a ball of feels. It even had me re-read the chapter to see if there were any subtle details about the dad.
