I'm willing to bet that the helpful ones look just as terrifying. The girl next to her was probably suffering from a malign spirit, and was purified or something. MC probably couldn't tell the difference between the malign/good ones as they're all effing terrifying to her lol

For all we know, him hitting her with the axe might have helped her. Like she definitely has some kind of malign spirit with her. It's interesting though, so the helpful spirits look equally terrifying, and there's no way to really no if they're helpful until you see them in action.
