I guess this is one of of these cry like a little baby episodes similar to "The Inner Light" from Star Trek TNG or "Jurassic Bark" From Futurama.

Btw. Is the girl the witch girl with twintails from chapter 26 and also the daughter of the werewolf woman? Did she get the dog from chapter 29? If this would be true, this would be quite tragic, because she would have had the dog for a very short time.

The problem with this is that the people that turned into stone are just trapped in stone from the looks of it.
This is implying that the dog is DYING in the trapped stone while FORCED to do the pose.
