Kind of an exposition backstory dump there. Came off really flat for me, and I can't put my finger on why. Maybe a lack of build-up? I wasn't given the time or knowledge to start hating the dad -- a mark on her neck isn't really enough for me to start thinking abuse. Idk. Feels like I can sympathize but can't emphasize.

I feel bad for saying it, but I think I'm just waiting for either a trainwreck or for this best couple to get shipped. Still think this manga's great despite my reasons.

I agree with @dotawolfbrother. I would expect Chiaki to be more reserved about her past but she told Kaoru without that much hesitation. I know that Kaoru pointed this out, but it seemed to happen a little too quick for me. I wonder if someone picking up her mother the next day would be too late? I mean, I thought someone would come help them sooner? Why did Chiaki want to move her mother so urgently? What was the phone call about?
