Mushoku no Eiyuu - Vol. 3 Ch. 14

So he trained half a year and then some to be a high tier red mage?

Ah, true @Joelasdasd it sure doesn't seem like it since they time-skipped and nothing changed at all. After 6 months Raina still doesn't know why she's doing housework? It's that kind of disconnection that makes you forget that any time has passed.

@Anony6152
You apparently missed a huge part of his training. He repeatedly trains until he's pretty much at death's door. "barest modicum of effort", indeed...

There should have been a timeskip before he goes to the Academy. It was 3 years and he's supposed to be 19 years old now.

Going leaps and bounds in such a short time is just make the MC pretty tasteless. It'll be great if he only knows a low or mid tier magic, and later learn higher tier magic in the academy. That will make the story progression more interesting...

@Anony6152
Friend, he had Raina beat him half to death, repeatedly, just for a chance to acquire a defensive skill. He ran himself out of mana repeatedly, to the point of almost passing out, just for a chance to acquire magic. You're wrong.

Edit: the problem with this manga is not that MC is OP without effort. The problem is that all his effort isn't shown. We get short glimpses, followed by a timeskip to him having mastered the skill. But the effort is there.

Oi come on, I was expecting more of the waifu-in-training shenanigans while MC tries to grasp the secret of magic. That was actually better part of this manga
I really hope that the sudden carriage scene was just one time joke about last arc and it won't turn into rehash of sword city but with magic.
But who I am even kidding, get ready for MC climbing a Magic Tower (dungeon), going to the top and defeating Divine Sorcerer since his Dad also evolved into Divine Sorcerer just before he left the Magic City with Mom. Then the evil mage will take a wand with demon sealed inside and yadda yadda
