Mushoku Tensei ~Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu~ - Vol. 11 Ch. 52 - The Adventurer Doronuma

seriously "doronuma"?? those who didnt read the webnovel wont even get what it means. "Quagmire" is much better.

Its been Quagmire since the baka-tsuki days. Changing it to doro-whatever is no way better.

I remember reading the other translation of this, and think that this one might be slightly better. That said, Eris's logic doesn't work for me, and think it's bad writing and poor characterization. She should've just tried to communicate with him, and she also could've gotten stronger beside him. Now she's just setting herself up for being ditched for the next charismatic girl Rudeus sees, and also traumatized him unnecessarily while setting off a journey that might not even bear fruit.

If she really loved him, she should've talked it over with him and cleared things up, and made a decision together with him. Real couples talk to together and make important decisions like that together with mutual love, attention, and respect. The fact that she took off like that thoughtlessly without any effort to consider how he'd feel and what the consequences might be shows that she doesn't love or understand him as much as she thinks she does, and that she's really not ready for a relationship and that someone else (ironically) might be better for Rudeus.

At any rate, I think this is the point where I feel like this series started going downhill, and I now much prefer the Roxy spinoff.

@higashida the dictionary says "soft miry land that shakes or yields under the foot" or "a difficult, precarious, or entrapping position : predicament"
How I've understood it's like a forest path that's completely trampled and has some stagnant muddy water on it, where if you step anywhere you displace a lot of mushy dirt, if you're not careful you'll slip and fall into the muddy water.
In short a crappy situation.

Wasn't the note supposed to be poor choice of words and cause him to think he was shit in bed? This translation on p. 30, while still not great at letting him know her plans, isn't something you'd get the same misunderstanding from, and it's definitely that kind of misunderstanding considering his ED.

Also gonna have to agree that it should stay Quagmire. It's a western-style fantasy and makes no sense for them to be calling him that. In fact if I remember correctly, they're not even actually speaking Japanese, because he had to learn the language, it's only shown as Japanese (or English in this case) for the readers. If it were an actual name, I'd agree to keep it as is (see: the whole One Piece "Dogtooth" controversy) but since it's just a nickname to describe the whole earth and water magic plus shitty depressed state of mind he's in, translating it to the currently-being-read-in language makes more sense.

And for those who don't know what a quagmire is, think a swamp bog.
