@elefantine97 they did at some point, look at chapter 4. Sometimes things don't work out (obviously with this story), maybe they had to separate for some reason or poor Mariko decided to move in with someone.

Shiino obviously means the world to the Mariko, and vice versa, I think I'm just frustrated that there couldn't have been a simple solution to Marika's problem
if they lived together, then surely she would heal over time, they seem compatible and they care for each other
the TL note at the beginning says no one is blameless in this story, and it hurts me to think that the abused and broken could be held to the same accountability as the abusive

That's actually pretty common. In the past chapters there were a few red flags about that, like Mariko saying that she would cut herself is Shii-chan left her, or that she wouldn't stand it if Shii-chan got a boyfriend (although Mariko had a boyfriend). She was kinda manipulative and emotionally abusive.

You cant really blame her for turning out that way considering the abuse she has gone through. Shii-chan should've gotten professional help for Mariko rather than outright leaving her. But I dont blame Shii-chan for Mariko suicide. She did the best she could to help Mariko even after her death and perhaps her suicide is unavoidable.
