Not wanting anything to do with her is one thing. He is straight up in denial that she even likes him which is something else entirely.
Saying "I'm not into you because you're a bitch, now leave me alone" would be fine, but he isn't saying that. He's saying "I don't understand why you are acting this way". Which leaves room for misunderstandings.

Her brother says "I think she likes you". You can respond "I know, but I find her annoying. Could you please tell her to stop". He didn't say that. He feigned ignorance. Or maybe he really is ignorant which means he's an idiot too stuck in his own world to realize what other people are telling him.
