@Elcief_SSN That's for normal marriages though - this is more or less a marriage of convenience. So back in that time, the distance between husband and wife was pretty huge

@onrainydays @Elcief_SSN that and this is frugal japan, and he's a samurai. in other words he's effectively an aristocrat, so for him to be "aggressive" and "animalistic" in his desire for her would be viewed as vulgar and of a lesser sort, and even more so for her. and since this was an arranged marriage he's afraid if he makes any sort of move she'll see him as some sort of beast, and she's afraid he'll see her as lustful whore. essentially this very easily would be resolved with a conversation but there in lies the issue because to have to have the conversation at all would probably make them feel like they brought shame somehow.
