Well, yes. I concur that smells are subjective, but my point was even after being cleaned, the clothes retained his smells.
This proved he's smelly (which means his body had a strong smells whether good or bad) and he was aware of it.
He afraid his wife thought his smells were unbearable, so his fear were justified.
