My Recently Hired Maid Is Suspicious (Webcomic) - Ch. 10

@CBC ah yes the wonderful irony. the person who made that term was a troll.
for those that don't know hippomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the term for "fear of long words" its quite hilarious.

@diidlydoo it is in fact intentional, just how words like "lisp" and "stutter" are hard to say for those with the condition in question

@Drakan so the term hippomonstrosesquippedaliophobia aka 'the fear of long words' was intentionally made to scare those suffering from said phobia?

@diidlydoo
There's no way that the academic who came up with the word couldn't have used a shorter version.
Or At least evilly chuckled while doing it.

@dillydoo @Caul Yes, in fact there are multiple parts of that word that make no sense, etymologically, being just thrown in there for length. "Hippo" means "horse" for example ("hippopotamus"="river horse", and often the troll version even includes the "poto" from it), and "monstro" for monstrous, I assume. But "sesquipedalophobia" by itself means a fear of big words (and is somewhat large, at 18 letters, but only about half the length of the intentionally elongated form), so there is no reason to add on to it, other than to be a troll.
