It's funny that you mention the dekopons. We had a few drafts for the credits page with various dekopons. The ones we went with were from a picture of a premium box of dekopons that were chosen for their aesthetic value. Here's one with less expensive dekopons.

He is written as such though, even his only good side: being good at school was written off as a joke when he turned into an asshole when he was teaching others to the point nobody was willing to thank him. The only way to redeem him at this point is to make him graduate and move out so he can become independent and reliable. Basically, write him out from the story and pretend he got better.
