Rather than a particular reference, it's probably just a prediction of said kids going to their parents like "what fresh devil possessed you to name us that?" once they become more aware of things.

Those are my thoughts exactly. That's why I've been thinking what's wrong with "Babel" and "Lilian". Anyway, we're not so sure, but Babel (Baberu) sounds like a weird name for a Jap kid.
