Tbh I personally prefer a pretty note over a couple bills of money when it's from a close friend. Money just disappears after all.

(Best might be both - but then the money might overshadow the note and make me forget about it. So best is probably a pretty note and then an invitation to a free party of sorts, be it dinner or sports/movie/hobby)
