Reincarnation isn't necessarily Isekai though, there are some "I reincarnated in the past/future," "I reincarnated as the opposite gender," "I reincarnated as an inanimate object," and "I reincarnated as an animal," stories too. All of these happening in the same world MC was originally from.

Isekai can be reincarnation or transportation as long as it's another world, and there's a fair ammount of these titles that justify the need for this tag.

Isekai is another world...
Reincarnation is self explanatory.
They're not always together...

Also they're not genres technically but they're good tags to have simple they explain the contents well, they're plot devices that define the comic in a significant way.

Finally, that's what they technically are: plot devices.

"style or category of art" so... For example, romance, action, horror, etc

Point is, these plot devices significantly define the mangas they're in regardless of the genres, so they should be tags so that people can find them with more ease.

@gothicshark
Now I think doing what you did by snapping at people and threatening to bring drama is wrong when this is/was an argument about the new tag system being clunky with several genres and themes getting mixed up by it. That was my argument with genderbender being the genre I'm familiar with and noticed the clunkiness from the first before reading more about the changes and came here. I do not condone this behavior. It does not make your previous arguments more appealling to those neutral to this or involved in this discussion.

Anyways~
I agree with what's been said that LGBT is not a good solution for a tag since there are already solid genres like shoujo and shounen ai.

I also see that this new tagging has fragmented and added things that make things harder to sort through. @AbyssalMonkey already pretty well what happened to fantasy and isekai. Same could be said for similar situations with genres and themes. You could say if you want anything specific just look at mangaupdates like doting onee-sans or meiji era stuff. However for things that don't have enough "material" it just leaves them with super general genres like shonen or comedy while leaving them in the cold. Rather just put things in an umbrella term. In the vain of searching for things easier it actually made things harder and less streamlined. Like isekai is fantasy and trans stuff is genderbend.

@ununseti
Forgot this. Genre is a criteria of classification of a work of media based on generally agreed upon elements that works like it share. Like action genre in media is going to have elements of physical conflict in someway as a method of resolving conflicts whether it be racing cars to war stories.

Is the choice of showing only completely translated works during a search in the to-do list ?
It would be really usefull for binge reading sessions...

"3. I'll also see if keeping the dropdown open while selecting tags is viable"
Maybe this? https://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_select_size.asp

I never said Isekai was a genre tho... it's a plot device...
It being a tag is just overall helpful to the comunity though since it helps people find something that is popular, people love and that sets the entire stories in which it's used apart from others.

Should we create a poll to move isekai out of genre?

I will agree with the majority that isekai is by NO MEANS a genre. It's scope is too limited on the story, it is usually a one-time action rather than a setting or mood which persist throughout the story. A genre is something that persist throughout the story. All it describes is a (usually one-time) transition in setting.

While I am at it, are space travel manga also isekai? I have never looked to see. But, they do fit the one requirement given by its name. Although I expect isekai to refer to a more mystic process... then again, how different are a warping spaceships, teleporting, and a summoning circles? They all get you to your destination near instantaneously. Perhaps they use the same technology inside?

Anyone have stricter requirements for isekai? How many of said requirements must be fulfilled?
My requirements:
Body/Soul Transferred to another world in a magical/fantasy like process.

common themes, of which I require 0 to be fulfilled:
gain powers from transfer.
transferred against their will.
cannot easily return.

I am following at least one manga with the tag that breaks each of those options. Although none that break all 3.
That said, I could conceive a space based isekai that I would accept:
Space travel isekai attempt [Short Story]. (I am sorry for the world that I wrote this.)

Another possible reason for being stuck on that planet:
Warps can only flow from a high energy potential location to a low one. It would take a millennia to travel back without warping, or more energy than the world can produce to overcome the energy potential difference. (stolen from Sokushi Cheat ga Saikyou Sugite, Isekai no Yatsura ga Marude Aite ni Naranai n desu ga)

So is there a guideline written down somewhere? I’m foreseeing some hefty edit wars without one. It sucks to have more entries locked because of it.

Awesome change btw. And by change I don’t define if it’s surgical or just cross dressing. It’s awesome either way.

Is there the possibility of adding an Artwork or Artbook tag?

There's an update to the tag search: you can now choose whether to use dropdowns or checkboxes. Dropdown behaviour was also changed a little to hopefully make it a bit less annoying to deal with.

Not strictly related, but added Publication status to the search while I was at it

I noted before other big flaws on page 4 that show this new system is inferior compared to the old one, but they were ignored among others here that raised very valid point that show this new system is worse than the previous one. The staff is adamant in not listen to the community...regardless how obvious is for the majority that this is not an improvement.

Just because it took an effort to do and is different doesn't mean an update is an improvement.

To illustrate this point, there is another flaw with the new tag system...

The search system works as an and, not as an or.

How is this a flaw? Easy.

For example:

[ul]If check both Magic/supernatural themes, it search only for manga with both of them, leaving aside the ones that are magic or supernatural.[/ul]

[ul]If check crime/delinquents you get only 1 manga as a result (and the test one), because the system is leaving behind all the ones that are either about criminals or delinquents. [/ul]

And the most obvious example:

[ul]If check mystery/thriller you just get 5 results (and the test one), even when "thriller" is a subset of "mystery" genre by definition. This also ignores all manga that are tagged either mystery or thriller.[/ul]

It should be or (or at least give the option to choose between "and" or "or").

Added an any/all option to both tag inclusion and exclusion

You're complaining about a change that never happened to begin with
