I wonder if there are still many variations of characters archetypes left unexplored.

Sometimes writers just genderswap an archetype.
F.e. Instead of the "damsel in distress" the "bachelor in distress".

Maybe I'd like to see a story with a lead character that's neither a true hero nor an true anti-hero. But someone mysterious where part of the fun is that the other characters and readers try to figure out those mysteries.
It could be hard to make such MC interesting though.
