It doesn't remove the illusion.
But you can realise that it IS an illusion a lot easier by doing so as your vision won't be the same as what you feel.
The arms are probably fine considering it would just feel like ruff and hard skin.
The illusion is however made to simulate reality to some extent as they are still the same high so some areas are less dangerous than others.
The face would be a dead giveaway though, not to mention any skin contact on our furry shota.
He is a lot riskier as you would feel the fur and instantly know something is up.
