@Saxit its probably because he was a hero in one and a sage in another (sage probably refering to being a magically powerfull person, not a wise or intelligent one) has made it so he dosent have an idea of the norm. the problen is he kills a dragon and thinks nothing of it, but when he thinks someone else did it he says they are awesome so it all ends up sounding stupid.
