The element that always comes in a fantasy world: slimes (after maids, of course)

The core being too big for the small body was a nice touch.

this test has even less sense than naruto chunin exam. Too many risks for a starters.

Is Renton really helping them?, they are learning in the middle of the exam, they have a big lack a lot of real experience, If move up to theoretically more difficult access dungeons and missions they would be killed sooner o later.

That 4th person in the ambush that didn't show themself is a guild staff member who's observing them. And he/ she's not the only one, but they shouldn't come out for smaller things.
And while some might die due to unfortunate incidents, most do survive and some do pass. But whether they do quests worthy of their new rank or not is up to each individual, but they had to do enough to qualify for the promotion exam in the first place.

It's very heavily hinted at that every group has a guild official tailing them. Likely people who are already Bronze Rank or higher. They'd certainly step in if anything terrible started to happen. It's certainly possible that someone in the group gets killed before they could intervene but that would likely be due to the fact that they weren't prepared to undertake this task to begin with. Hell even this main event boss seems incapable of killing someone. Odds are it slurps up any adventurers and devours them over a period of time with it's acidic nature. If you think about it that way, it's impossible for any of the contenders to even die to this boss unless the Guild purposefully lets it happen, which... they won't since we already saw a team get rescued and spit out.

My only complaint would be that it's sort of idiotic that the first person to the 'destination' is the winner. I guess it could be misleading and that everyone who arrives at the destination gets promoted and the winner simply gets some special treatment... because otherwise it's rather stupid. I get you can argue that someone who allows others to clear the obstacles before proceeding shouldn't be allowed to progress their rank but you could also argue that it can be crucial to proceed carefully and not rush. The way it seems is that the amount of people who get promoted is minuscule - and this is simply to fucking Bronze ranking that our MC had at the start of the series while being much weaker. Hell he even admitted the previous Promotion Exam was just delivering some rare herb. Seems odd why they're increasing the difficulty and making it to where only one team of 3 is the 'winner' that passes.

My assumption is that it's because some real weird shit is happening in the dungeon (you know, reincarnation dragons and chicks will free loot roaming the place) and main character isn't the only one who is aware of that.
