My friends would go into sex shops all the time in high school. Workers generally don't give a shit unless you're causing trouble or look like you're literally 10 years old. Granted this is America, Japan might be different (though manga would like to tell you otherwise lol).

Only time a worker even questioned us was when my one friend was trying to buy a big ole dildo and the guy was like, "are you over the age of 18?"
We were like "...... yes?" (fat lie)
