@Arlaisen I figured it was more of a general play off of North Korea, given the isolationist policies and hereditary head of government and all. It's only seemed to take jabs at whatever the author considers to be "socialism" in these newer chapters. Japan seems to be used more as a device for the aesthetics and culture of capitalist consumerism.
 
Unfortunately communism can't work without elites that are willing to earn the same as everyone else despite their power.
