Ohayou Toka Oyasumi Toka - Vol. 2 Ch. 7 - The Difficult Meaning of Family

Let me take a wild guess- Hotaka isn't actually his half sister, only the twins, so he can end up marrying her just like that manga/anime where the college boy looks after his dead sisters family, and marries her step daughter in the end. (Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai!) No doubt there are a few other s as well

@Facade, it is a possibility (it is Japan) but I don’t think is the idea of the mangaka... I think this history is to discuss the meaning of family, he (hinata, the MC) himself admits he doesn’t know because his father and mother aways leaves him alone... I think like this because of the way hotaka shot down the noisy aunt. This is probably his journey (and for her sisters) to find the meaning of a family.

@Facade
I really hope not. . . the slice of life story of this impromptu family is adorable so, without the need to slip into it by force of the unwanted romance.

@Lucrecia @KarmicheI hope not too, both Usagi Drop and Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! had a side character who I thought would have been a better romantic interest, rather than keeping it in the family. It would make a nice change if it doesn't turn out how I think.

Idk I think it's pretty obvious that they're going to lead up to Wahei and Hotaka not being related - they seem to have written a lot of similarities into the loneliness of their character's, and that's probably intentional for the purpose of later character growth and plot points. Just a guess, but based off of Hotaka's actions so far, and the fact that their mom ditched them so easily when she got married again, plus the gaps between all of their ages, it seems like her mother has abandoned her periodically depending on her romances, so she tries really hard to be useful and not in the way.
Plus, Hotaka's at least 16 and Wahei's 28, so he'd have been 11 when she was born. His dad was still around when he was a kid and fullscale disappeared when he was older. Based on his father's flippant nature, and the seemingly flippant nature of the girls' mother, it's also pretty unlikely that either of their characters would have maintained a consistent relationship with each other from Hotaka's birth to Chiina and Chiise's. But that's of course, just my own speculation. It might not be that deep, but it seems like the author is trying to place parallels between Hotaka and Wahei in a lot of ways.

Wahei character became more lively and have lot of worries and I like how his co-worker teasing him about his new living style with his sisters. XDD

@Facade I guess I needed to read chapter 1 more closely again.

I thought they were just step-siblings and his father had just married their mother.

But looking at the family tree in Chapter 1, it looks like his father screwed the girls mother, after his wife had left him...they never got married, but when their mother married another man (not Hinata's father) she went to live with that man and kicked the girls out.

Damn...3 parents...2 mothers and a single father in this manga are all scum.

People are calling the neighbor nosy...but she is doing something Hinata should have done in chapter 1. She actually seems ready to contact the authorities about the safety of these kids. Hinata should have reported his father and their mother in chapter 1.

@HOOfan_1 He should have called the authorities on his family when he was born, they basically birth a child and abandon it in their own house.
