Honda had always been mildly obsessed with control from the very start of their relationship, but now that they're facing things that Honda has no control over, he's panicking. And then he resorts to compulsions.

I don't know if showing him as such is intentional or not, but I like how Honda's character is presented. Kudos to the mangaka.
