Not necessarily a coincidence. While he acts subdued, he's actually just as obsessed with her as she is with him.
For example, Omoi actually has an identical twin sister, but he is so single mindedly in love with her that all other girls kinda look the same to him and not only can he easily tell the 2 apart, he actually can't see the resemblance between them and constantly has to be reminded they are twin sisters. It becomes a running gag in the later chaps that he forgets the sister's name and appearance constantly
Edit: Oh, just noticed something reading the chapter again: When Omoi asks what Karuizawa likes most about her, he wants to say "everything", but rather than because it's a clichèd and thoughtless answer, it's because he literally likes everything about her.

Her over-obssesiveness seems to be hereditary. Couple days ago, I looked at the only free available raws (2-3 chapters
) and there this particular chapter that feature him visiting his GF's home. Long story short, just when he was about to go home, his GF's mom acting exactly like her daughter, pressuring him into corner and he just gave up and decided to stay a bit longer LMAO

Just in case there are people who don't get the wordplay in their names and in the title, 『思い』(feelings)『重い』(heavy) and『面井』(her last name) are all read as "omoi". Her whole family has extremely "heavy-hearted feelings" that they express in over-the-top ways.
In contrast, Karuizawa's "karui" is actually written with the kanji for "light" (『軽い』), but funny enough, in his case it doesn't quite fit because his feelings for her are anything but light.
