One Punch Man (Webcomic/Original) - Ch. 120

I used to really hate him, but sweet mask turning out to be a monster struggling to hold onto his humanity totally turned that around for me. But even more than that, I love how Saitama sees right through his sweet talk and gives him a genuine reason for saying no, what's the point of all that popularity if you kill your own personality and freedom in the process? Saitama doing hero work just for fun is exactly what makes him a true hero, he's not bound by obligation or public image, he just saves people cuz he likes doing it. Also, I've said this before, but I'm pretty sure Saitama's a hero monster, and sweet mask's monsterfication just further cements this in my head.

Knowing he's actually the complete opposite of a narcissist makes me consider my initial opinion of Sweet Mask.

Wow. I did not expected that, but damn I appreciate the reveals of the chapter! It puts Sweet mask in a waaaay different light, and Saitama is still a master of armor piercing question.

Damn, I love the webcomic version.

@Doomroar I'm pretty sure blood and monster parts don't stuck themselves in that way, nor they become animated once they got stuck. The reason Garou was told he was just a human with a costume is because Saitame didn't feel killing intent and noticed that even if he was beating everyone, he didn't actually killed anyone even if he could, he refused to see him as a monster because well that's Saitama and his direct personality. The same could be said about how he also doesn't see Amai Mask as a monster.

If we asume that people (and even other things) can mutate because of their inner desires and pent up feelings, there's no reason to disregard the thought that this transformation cannot be reversed when someone makes them see their nonsense, perhaps in a comedic fashion like a costume crumbling.

Give Saitama decent salary and let him do as he please, he will probably listen to you that way.

Wow. This is...actually quite fascinating.

I wasn't that interested in Sweet Mask before, but this is an engaging personal struggle. He accidentally turned into a monster, and now he's worried about what's going to happen to his legacy.
Granted, it's not that important and Saitama realizes that, but it would make for an interesting standalone story like a lot of the side characters this webcomic parodies. His ideals reminded me of All Might.

It makes so much sense that he's a monster too. He's become a clinical psychopath, and that must be terrifying in its own way.

As for his advice, Saitama's parting words had an honest wisdom to them, but he isn't wrong in that Saitama changing his habits a little could do a lot of good. I care less about his public image and more about his overall mental health. Self-care is important.

I knew Amai mask had smth off about him but nice to see they confirmed what he really is. All this time I have been thinking he was an alien or something.

We had other little snippets of his personality and how he has a really strong sense of justice besides a good public image, so no surprises there.

Oh shit didn't realize there was another chapter.
Thought it was just ONE today, hallelujah.

So Mask has like a Monster side to him & killing monsters is his way of keeping his humanity? I'm down for it.

Also Clown monster.
I wanna make a joke about this but I can't think of one.

@A-tan I think the surprise for most of us is how personable and relatable his original character was. His sense of justice is a given and many of us already suspected his monster nature, but this chapter puts him in the position of an unfortunate victim rather than as a hidden antagonist.

@licebmi Going beyond the technicality of bloodloost, monsterfication tends to embody one's obsession perfectly. Garou's desire to become a monster would ironically have granted him the ability to mimick other monsters. He did become a true monster, but he was also in every sense a failure of a monster because his transformation was triggered by contrived obsession.

Explains a lot, including why he's so coldblooded about killing. Not that humans can't be like that, but still--he's always had this thing where on one hand, he's busy being the perfect hero, but on the other there was this blood lust.
