The gate and walls look effective. They wouldn't be decorated because they aren't for show. Those are proper walls to keep undesirables and creatures out. Sheer, tall, solid walls and gates that open outwards.

There is either a translation error or the manga author got it wrong. The MC says his mana is used up so he has to retrieve the mana gem. It should say his mana is completly filled up so he doesn´t need to absorb more and he can take the gem.
I like how this is close to the novel and I really like the art.
