On the one hand, I don't really support this idea; people click on things without intending to do so, and I note that the Android Chromium-based browsers are really bad about spurious registration, which is to say that they act as if the user has clicked one thing when he or she has clicked something else. (I was thinking about making a video documenting this behavior, because it is sometimes quite extreme.)
But, on the other hand, I note that, because more recently it has become possible to mark chapters as read without summoning those chapters one-by-one, the damage done by a hasty user or by an HBM browser can be undone at lower cost than used to be the case.
