This one's an exception to that rule. Akatsu & Lily's dynamic/ bond has grown so much with me that I can't think of anyone else being together besides them.

I actually don't think Ayano is a legit love interest, it feels like she has an ulterior motive more than anything. She just using her "assets" to make it easier but Akutsu is so deeply in love with Lily that it will fail. I think people are freaking out a little too much about this "love triangle."

@paela69 Chapter 42, page 4. It's only one panel, but we see the bully with a girl, and a beaten up Akutsu looking dejected, with his narration describing her as one of "the few things [he] ever held precious".

"why not just continue with the story and make shit happen" - make shit happen, excellent idea... Never mind the whole issue with them being from different races (which are in conflict) and that in their minds they have no right to be together. It's not like this was the theme of the entire manga.

They work together and they shared some "moments" but I don't think being in relationship even crossed their minds. Well, until Ayano showed up, Lily became jealous and started questioning things.
But if you really think their relationship would move forward without a big push from outside, then keep dreaming.
