That's precisely what I was afraid had happened all those years ago when she vanished from the circle.
She'd met and fallen for a mundane. For someone who had no knowledge of that culture at all. And whose personality had no place for it within him.
Sacrificing something that central to one's soul, for someone who would never know the sacrifice, and wouldn't comprehend it if he did.
I sure hope that there were other things about him that made it worthwhile.
He has absolutely no idea just how crucial his reactions in the near future will be to his relationship with his children, and to his wife.
No clue whatsoever, as she has assiduously hidden any trace of it from the moment she decided to get seriously involved with him. Which does not speak well for how she expected him to react if he got the faintest whiff of it.
