Otome Danshi ni Koisuru Otome - Vol. 5 Ch. 488 - Way of Calling

@ChristineGuinn while long vowels some what matter to the Japanese, it does not matter when you translate it to romaji. They only care when they pronounce it, not when they write it (in romaji). The extra u can be omitted, especially if it is a name.

@MavB_Ver - You just made MY point! The manga wasn’t written in romaji, was it? It would matter how Mayu PRONOUNCED it, which can only be conveyed by INCLUDING the extra vowel in romaji.

@ChristineGuinn Indeed. Very well said. We know for a fact those two names (or a name and nickname) do exist separately, so it makes sense we can read and tell them apart as well. Kurisu handled it perfectly, as far as I'm concerned.

@ChristineGuinn @Kaarme must agree that being able to tell them apart is great, in this case Kurisu did it very well. Just wanted to say that in many other cases, there is not much difference whether having or not have the extra vowels, for examples Shidou and Shido are mostly the same. That's the reason Kusisu said that.
