Otome no Teikoku - Vol. 10 Ch. 124 - I Want a Lucky Bag!

How Japan celebrate New year ? I'm usually still awake at 4 AM on New Year and generally go to sleep at 5 AM.

@Lilliwyt Far as I can tell from manga, Japanese celebrate new year by watching some kind of traditional annual music contest game show thing on TV, eating some special new year symbolic food, and doing a first shrine visit of the year where there's a bunch of people go to the shrine and do the prayer, get the fortunes, tie them to trees to ward them off if they suck, drink the special drink the shrine people are selling and stuff. If you're feeling really gung ho you actually go to the shrine at night and watch the first sunrise.
So OK, I guess modern Japanese celebrate by watching the first sunrise together while waiting in line for merch. Very spiritual if you worship shopping.

The ''lucky bag'' she's talking about is a fukubukuro, and it's a huge deal in japan during new year season, it's like sales, except you have no idea what you'll get in the bag
but it's guaranteed to get you '' more value than you'll normaly spend when you buy stuff directly and sometime, even stuff you'll can get only in lucky bags''

somes exemples of what you can get in japan in well know brands

OOOH how dare you to destroy Chie's supercute ponytail!!!

It always annoys me when characters complain about the cold but can't be bothered to button up their coats... 😫

Now many new years has it been this series? You'd think they'd be out of high school by now

Chie is so cute without her stupid bun hairstyle.

So are they a couple or not?

@Ranzo this is barely their second year man they celebrated their first year Christmas together like in chapter 40-50ish? And this is barely their second year theyre also only 2nd years though some girls are 3rd years they might disappear in a bit or not appear as much.
