Are you kidding? He suddenly got shot at from who know's where and who knows why, and then he got sand in his eyes, in addition to being tasked with holding down the injured horse. What else exactly did you want him to do? He was given a different task entirely, so nobody there expected him to fight back. Besides, he had no weapon, no skills in using them even if he did, and was impaired due to the sand. The fact that he didn't break down and have a panic attack under those situations is manly enough

And besides I think this is not Talas being disappointed but Talas realising how close her newest and most beloved husband just came to death, and she did so little to protect him.
