Otoyomegatari - Vol. 13 Ch. 95 - Choice

@That_ylda
There were already times before during which Henry wasn't present and yet the story was told. In fact, while he's met all characters, in many cases he's not aware of their story. He merely had a glimpse of their lives.

Seems like the end of his arc nears, unless he decides to visit the region again, years later.

Thanks for the translation, TSP! That was a great ride.

I doubt his family will accept a "savage" to be his bride.
But I could be wrong.

Oh good God, Otoyomegatari is getting closer and closer in making me cry. And I'll tell you, I don't cry easily. ಥ_ಥ
First Talas, then Ali, then aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh.........

@Miyono-chan
...why? xD

@Silas
Almost. Otoyomegatari takes place a few decades before Emma.

@MCX01
Even if they don't accept, they can't do a lot to stop him, I think. Henry himself said that since he's the second son and not the family's heir, he can do pretty much whatever he wants with his life.
At "worst" case scenario, he and Talas can go live in India (he does have a house there).

Oh, yeah. Otoyomegareaders may also like to read "Fushigi no Kuni no Bird".
The protagonist is in a similar situation/journey as Smith, traveling to document vanishing cultures.

I'm glad I was wrong about us not getting to see what Smith decides right away, but since he's leaving the area, it does seem like the end. Perhaps we'll still get an epilogue showing where everyone is now?

Pariya and Umar finally marry, Karluk is finally grown up and some of their problems are resolved, Smith and Talas leave India after a few years for England, Anis and Shirin finally go on that trip, maybe the one of the twins gets pregnant and they realize they really aren't going to be living the same lives anymore?

it was the right decision but damnit I wanted them to meet up again soon. Hit like a truch

Not gonna lie, my favourite part of this chapter was seeing they kept Chubar. Genuinely felt that.

Whew! When I read on reddit that Smith's journey came to an end, I thought he died or something. This is a much better, albeit still a sad, outcome

@ViEmlleSzDias because "Smith" is the one of the most common (no offense intended to those named Smith: mine is, too 😅) surname out there, and Henry is from a wealthy, if not powerful, family enough to order around a guy like the one they met in Turkey (?) and he's not a nobody either. Yeah, maybe I'm reading too much into that little detail 😅

@Miyono-chan
I think Mori chose "Smith" precisely because it's common. So Henry is just from a rich but relatively "normal" family, not one that would appear in history books. Since this is a historical manga that tries to be as faithful to history as possible, having Henry be from an important family would impact things.
Also, from what I searched, "Smith" IS the most common surname among the english-speaking countries. xD

What a good ending for Henry's arc. I'm really happy Chubar gets to go with them.
Thank you so much for translating!!
