I am proud that he joined the guild and is able to gain money "easier". While at the same time his luck with making something with a decent rarity is pretty shitty.
@MadParadox
His name IS Greed, it was a mistake made by an initial translator of the novel due to how difficult Korean language is to translate, it stuck in every translation since then due to habits.
Don't get your hopes up, he still his old asshole self even if he joined the guild.
Also on the subject of his luck...
For all his " poor luck" Grid he has a magical talent for turning his misfortune around.
Its a fact that he is extremely unlucky, but all that misfortune also always ends up being a blessing in disguise later down the line.
This story could have been called, "how I turned my misfortune into profit" or something along those lines and nobody would have made a big deal out of it.
Take his class, for example, he spent months doing effectively nothing and raising his reputation with a city that eventually is going to hate him for what he does later.
But because of it, he gets the most broken class in the whole game around a year earlier then it was intended.
Its basically like doing nothing for months and getting rewarded for it by being allowed to access an expansion content months before everyone else that has power level features enabled.
Another example is Doran who forced him on an impossible quest with a level penalty.
Because of the failed quest that only cost him two levels early on, he got a free stats by becoming a negative level number and a follow-up quest to save the girl again with crazy good rewards later on.
And as for his inability to make good tier weapons.......
Minor spoilers from here
it's actually good for him NOT to make high tier weapons.
Its a semi-big plot point around 100-200 chapters down the line.
His class has a bullshit mechanic that he gets stats from crafting items. ( I don´t remember any other class being able to "farm stats" like he was without leveling up )
But the more high rarity items he crafts the fewer stats he gets from it.
After crafting a set amount of high tier items, lower-tier items stop giving stats.
It was intended to make it so you get lots of stats early on and then taper off while you level up the crafting skill so you can craft high tier items to wear later on. So only cracking out low-grade items gets him more stats in the long run then crafting high rarity once.
His poor luck with crafting effectively gives him like 5x the stats of everybody else on his level.
And despite everything he barely gets any real character growth until super late in the story.
the TL: DR version is that Grid is going to be an asshole for a LOONG while still, even if he eventually does get a teeny tiny bit better over time, but he never really stops being a shit person imo.
That said, for the most part, its the game´s fault for both enabling and encouraging his behaviour...
Him being even allowed to get the legendary class being just one of the games clearly flawed game design...
But that is a whole other can on worms...
Don´t get me wrong its a great story and all, but the suspension of disbelief rockets out the window when you start thinking how utterly incompetent the game developers are.
As somebody who actually has made games in the past, it makes me want to claw my eyes out.
It's not like game devs never make mistakes, but the once in this story never even bother trying to fix them in the first place even when they know its a problem.
WTF, "charging 20 gold is dishonest.. so I must be more honest with my guild-mates so 30 gold it is" LMFAO
If there's ever a cross universe between TLMS and OG, he'll certainly be "Weed's Descendant" instead of Pagma's
@Goldenzeal
Since I'm discussing stuff that happens later spoiler tag, but I wouldn't consider anything I mention to be a real spoiler as it's all non-specific
Grid's bad attitude is mostly comes from his lack of money.
(from my comment in the previous chapter)
90% of Grid's bad attitude is from lacking money and status. The first major shift is around ch 100-110 WN, the completion of the shift is around ch 220 WN. Kind of like if a girl who was mean and snippy because she was fat and ugly, became thin and pretty and she mellowed out and started being kinder and nicer because the source of her bad personality was eliminated.
Considering there are currently 1322 WN chapters I wouldn't say ch220 is WAY latter. And after that point Grid really doesn't do anything that I would consider "of low character". Yeah the 'greedy' character quirk still comes up occasionally, but it's not really out what I would consider the normal range and isn't done maliciously (to non-evil people).
"how I turned my misfortune into profit" is would be close to what I'd expect the if this was a JP LN. Grid's "luck" basically goes he get's nothing easy on a daily basis, but in major battles he regularly get chance based options activating. The author also just makes the world conspire to give him the best outcomes when dealing with NPCs and story events on the whole. There are never really any arcs where you see Grid working to overcome some challenge/obstacle. IE him growing as a person or in capability in order to overcome said challenge/obstacle. It's mostly him just pushing through with his current capabilities or overcomes it later thanks to his natural growth. Yes there are a few 1-3 chapter training arcs where Grid increases his control capabilities, but they are not a result of him seeking them out.
I do agree that the game design is poorly thought out. (However the author does do a good job with the character and damage stats). The economy, on the other hand, is a complete and total joke.
Yes thank you, I think exactly the same.
The story is good but the game dev not really.
I'm a junior programer and I just can't accept this guys XD
If I understand correctly, he got a minus level because he got a penalty. But he shoudn't have it because he was a level 1 at that time. He had it because he wasn't at a low level area.
That mean the positionnement of the player is used at condition to determine if the player receive a penalty, why ?
They just need "if the player level is equal or inferior at 10 then no penalty" and no more bug exploit instead of "if the position X and Y of the players equal area1 or area2 or area51() then no penalty".
Plus I think it's strange Greed was the first doing that since the game is supposed to be mondial playing.
Well I just kind a frustrate about that and I'm happy to know other people think the game have serious flaw too so Thank you
@sonyaism@MadParadox Yep, he is the only one with legendary appraisal skill so he has monopoly over it. And only his appraisal can uncover hidden features, also 30 gold is quite cheap for rankers like the ones on his guild so it's really not a big deal for them as they can just sell unused equips with hidden features for much more anyway
