The procedure they talk about is just reading the girl a bedtime story, shes actually quite content with her life. The rumors that its some horrid thing they do to these girls is just as effective as the horrid things they're allegedly doing. It's something about the power of words being able to hold back the demon, so keep believing its a horrid thing.

Nope. They explicitly need her to be aware of what is happening, and dread it. IIRC they start administering amnesiacs to keep her from getting too used to the procedure.

They can't put her on coma, she needs to feel the distress to prevent the fetus from birth, they even give her amnesiacs once a week to make sure she doesn't get used to it.
