Is it better to kill a human permanently who committed a crime, or kill a human mouse temporarily who committed no crime?

I'd say, the latter is probably better, especially if they don't remember.

@Red225 as the in the 5th page, 2nd panel, 3rd box says "Science does not require that we abandon our morals"
Tbh the fact that you say to kill one of them is better instead of choosing to kill none of them sickens me.

@Red225
"Yet you retain memories prior to each instance of death. Is this accurate?"
"R-82611 remember many many times. Painf7l. Very. V3ry painf8l."

In this case, you aren't "killing" it, you are "torturing" it, since it still remember it death and still remember the painful feelings that lead to death.
Though for what reason are you "killing" them? If it's for experiment, then yeah, the latter is prefer. But if it's for anything other than that, then 9/10 will say the former.

We could start an utilitarian argument and conclude that killing the rat is "better" but by being sapient the rat is on the same level as us and have the same rights as us.

Killing him, or in this case, torturing him when he hasn't done anything wrong is unethical.

@mekrabbat yes

The Foundation could do horrible things, but they are still the "good guys" in a very ultilitaristic way.

The committe is how they "control" themselves to not do something bad without a real reason.

The Castle MURMUR - CHANT - PRAY - INVOKE! panel is a reference to Wizardry, one of the oldest Computer RPGs and a game that directly inspired Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.
