Damn, this is a good chapter. To be honest, I often skip 0.5 chapters in series cause they always tend to be omakes and I just want to keep reading the story I was just interested in. Glad I didn't skip this one.

So they acknowledge that the "parasite" is metaphorical in the chapter after they start saying it's literal.

Miaki's works tend to have that. The supernatural element is "real" but is it really? For all we know maybe it isn't, the characters say it's real but still, maybe it isn't, the story wouldn't change that much because of the way the themes are approached and the storytelling.
