To be fair to Unoki, he's only recently found out that their relationship was one where what he thought of her actually mattered.


That, and it's established on the first page of the first chapter that, besides his possibly his family members, he has never been in a positive relationship before.


No friends, nothing. He's been forced to be an errand boy for various bullies since elementary school.


Unless it gets retconned, that means that Toramaru isn't just his first girlfriend, but his first friend ever.

The faces this chapter were fun to boot. Especially comparing the bunny's face to Unoki.
I feel like retorting to the fact that being a skilled gopher shares a lot of proficiency with being a good boyfriend, but that's probably been done already.
