...I'm not sure I'm 100% ok with the fact they pulled this kind of switch. Good it wasn't forced, out-of-nowhere drama...but the language used feels very manipulative (towards the readers). Maybe I need to reread the last few chapters just in case? There might be some nuance in the dialog that is supposed to cue in the reader "there's something more here"...
