Hm, it's a hard one. He does act stupid, but at the same time his circumstances are extraordinary, and he is a coward (as in personal trait, not an insult). Plus there's this feeling of powerlessness.

This guy is going to need some help to escape this situation, they're playing in their own home after having pre-planned everything for their victims, while he's alone in an unknown place. He could certainly think his actions more carefully and thoroughly than what he's been doing, but it's true that if he doesn't find some external help, either by that "employee" or by that kid, his chances of making it out are almost null.

Also, i hope he's really not going to trust that bitch few chapters before, please mc i know you're not that dumb.
