Even though I am trying to give myself extra time to research all of the arcane pseudoscience, I happened upon this discussion that points out that the Lovecraftian abomination on page 10 is a Loligo and not a cuttlefish; I blame the paraphrasistic translators of the Loeb edition for being almost as sloppy as the translator of the Spanish edition (not OmegaKaiser, the other guy...)

Poor Felix seems to be regretting not sticking around to lay pipe for that girl
