Haha, it's not that I made a mistake. It's that I consciously chose to pick a better name that resembled the original. Additionally, the katakana spellings for some things in this manga seem to be close but slightly off, or slightly different. So yeah, Asher is probably correct and instead of "Lyotal" "Leotard".

I totally get you, and concur. It's not always black and white, with exceptions to every rule. If a real name that can be sourced exists versus a completely made up name, I personally prefer the former as it usually sounds better and more likely closer to the author's original intention when choosing a name. Common sense should always be taken into consideration, which would be easier for a person translating who speaks English natively.
