It looks like these beings exist in a between dimension. If you can see them that means they can affect you. The more you see the more you're affected. (Kind of reminds me of the mediator series by Meg Cabot{less creepy but similar rules for the main character}) So if they can affect you can you attack them back? Hmmm...
