The big reveal has been dragging on long enough that I think it is safe to say the mangaka is just putting out filler material to stretch things out as long as possible. Meaning, he has no place to go with his story once the reveal has been made. I am sorry to say, this could have likely been done as a oneshot, and told the exact same story.
