Well now, that's a neat twist for this kinda genre. I guess with the protag not technically being a detective, he doesn't feel so obligated to follow justice to the letter. He's okay leaving some dirty truths buried.

That was a nice twist, I was wondering how could a doll hold enough static electricity, to actually shock a person. But the police must have also picked up the doll, or they are so incompetent that they missed the Leyden jar.
Looks like we need a myth busters episode for this story whether this mechanism would work.
