@Procrasss I think I know what happened, since he didn't get mugged by the robbers the second time Emilia didn't have to stop and save him so she had more time to look for clues which eventually led her to the thief. I'm guessing the reason he knew the thief girl stole the emblem from the Emilia was because of the clues they got from the merchant.
