Read chapters aren't marked as read in my follow list?

I recently came over from kissmanga and since I have most my bookmarks on myanimelist I was just filling out my mdlist, however when I click on following none of the manga I am currently reading have any chapters marked as read. For example I put solo leveling in my mdlist as reading and that I currently read 114 chapters. But when I click on following all 114 chapters are marked as unread. Am I doing something wrong ? When I asked about it in discord people said it was because people skip chapters and that I just have to deal with it but marking like 10000 chapters as read seems a tiny bit excessive. So I doubt that's true.

That's the norm. If you haven't read a chapter on MD, it will be labeled as so regardless of you having already read elsewhere. It will only mark all the chapters as read when you set the reading status to Completed, but then if you change the status your progress is reverted to the previous state. For now, you have to manually mark them as read, or ignore them and wait until the mass marking function is implemented.

But why? What is the point of having a reading option where you can enter how many chapters you read if they aren't marked as read ?

Ask the devs. Also, imagine it like this: I find a manga of my interest, I hit the follow button but only have the time to read first few chapters, should they mark all the chapters as read? The option to mass marking will solve your problem, but it is yet to be implemented.

P.S. if you were talking about the xx/xx chapters progress, it is just a note lol

But then it still doesn't make sense. I am not saying all chapters should be marked as read if you put it as reading. But if you put it as reading and then say you read 20 chapters why wouldn't it mark those 20 chapters as read? That part makes no sense to me, also you say ask the devs but how am I supposed to contact them.

Yeah, a mass marking feature would be pretty nice. I read Berserk elsewhere, and while I didn't have to mark the 300+ chapters, I still felt the need to lol.

Make a thread complaining, ping them just like I tag you or DM them, contact staff on discord etc... Can't guarantee if they will reply you though.

Especially since the amount of chapters read does increase after you read the latest chapter. So if I read chapter 23 and put the manga as reading and caught upto chapter 22 it would increase to chapter 23. It really makes no sense to me why they wouldn't just mark the chapters you say you read as read.

Looked around a bit more I doubt they are gonna implement anything like this any time soon however I found a scrip that atleast selects everything which helps a ton. (NOT MINE!!!!!!) https://openuserjs.org/scripts/UseYourName/MangaDex_mark_as_read if you drag down the eye of a chapter it will mark the chapters as read.
