Reader settings keep resetting to default

Ever since the birth of this site, I've had the Legacy reader setting selected for my account (easy to use, loads images faster, etc). Today, when I open any chapter, I get the "Default" reader (which makes images take longer to load, sometimes they won't even load at all). Going into my settings, I saw that my preferred reader had changed (without me doing it), so I set it back to Legacy reader mode. But when going back to read any chapters it goes back to the Default reader again, completely ignoring my preferred settings.

oh IK how it feels, lol Since it happens to me all the time too. I assume it's not fixated?

I'm having this same issue. Less than half a day ago, I was reading things in the Legacy mode just fine (as I always had it set to this and never touched anything) and now its set to default mode with no way of going back to Legacy. Not sure what happened.

@AbyssalMonkey It's not related to cookies or a script blocked on my end at least. I've been using MD since its inception. I only use Firefox to access this site, with adblocking and other security extensions disabled (in case they want to serve ads for mantaining the site up). This is the first time this has happened to me, but as you can see from the other replies, I'm not the only one who has experienced this.

Also, it must be on MD's end, because before, no matter with what browser/device I accesed the site, it always remembered my reader preferences, until today.

For now, I've managed to make it remember my reader settings by selecting Legacy reader and saving multiple times. Lets see how long it takes until it resets again, if it does at all.

@Zahogan

The reader doesn't save your settings after you close your browser or all your Mangadex tabs.

To keep the reader settings saved, you need to keep at least one Mangadex tab open.

@crazybars

That is false, since the reader type preference is in your global settings (accessed from the sidebar, clicking on your username and selecting Settings), meaning that it remembers them regardless of any device/browser you use. You must be confusing them with the actual reader settings, the ones that appear when reading a chapter. I'm talking about the former.

Any bugs regarding the Legacy Reader likely wont be adressed. Because its like you were using windows 95.

It's not a bug with the Legacy reader, it's a bug with the navigation setting. Nav (Left) does not work either, it uses Nav (Right) regardless of your settings.

Just happened to me now. Was reading a chapter, clicked to go to another specific chapter, and then suddenly my settings went to default instead of legacy.

I sure as hell didn't change that. And I'm reading on PC browser, not a mobile browser.

So that's what it was?

I thought I was the only one.

It is kinda annoying because the default setting feels like reading on a sluggish mobile browser.

😐

Any mods working on this? Been like this all day. Settings are being affect in various ways. I have the same problem of having it set to Legacy reader mode, but it only shows as Left Panel reading mode, and my language filter option is all borked. No matter what I change it to, it just seems to do it own thing, showing (what seems to be) all language posts.

This thread also had others with the same issue. https://mangadex.org/thread/243237

You should be able to set it back to legacy and it should stick. If it doesn't, then something weird is going on.

@Holo

No, it's still not working. I can set to the View to Legacy, Left, or Right, and it will save the view in the settings menu, but it will only actually display the Left view option when viewing a manga. The Language filter option is also still broken. I can change the filtered languages and it appears to save the setting, but after going into the setting menu a 2nd time, it'll have the filtered languages all deselected again. I'm gonna try logging out and deleting the browser cookie again, but this all started early this morning not just for me, but others as well.

Deleting cookies did nothing. I'm still getting Left panel navigation even though Legacy does show in the settings saved, and the Language filter still keeps showing all languages.

@KazuyaKan
Uh, so the options "Legacy", "Left", and "Right" make it seem like you're talking about the "Navigation" option, which changes where the menu is on mobile layout. If you want to use the legacy READER, that's the option BELOW that one helpfully labeled "Reader"

When you're selecting language filters, are you selecting the languages you don't want to see? If so, that's not how it works. You select the ones you want to see, and if you end up having like 20 languages selected the system just shows them all to save time and processing power.

also, are you sure you're actually hitting the "save" button on the very bottom after making changes to the settings?

@MrIncognito
Yes, thank you that fixed the issue. I didn't realize there was a 2nd Legacy option below the first. Though why the settings changed in the first place I have no idea.
