Lol, I thought this when I was reading the novel too but... What sort of game allows an insanely powerful mage to have health higher than his mana?? That's just broken XD
Though... All of my game knowledge comes from novels, so maybe it isn't as cheat-like as it seems? haha

Sadly, it's a game with horrible balance. Skills like that are first come first serve, so there is no way for characters made later to get close to older ones, unless they constantly put out exclusive skills. That would destroy any semblance of balance further, even if they did a stat crunch (rebalancing the game) later. It's a game system setup like Jenga that is ever more on the verge of falling over, and it will show later in the story.
I'd like to say that most stories with "game mechanics" are written by those that get their information from novels and such. So incorrect concepts just seem to fester culturally (I take balance seriously, so this is a peeve of mine). That could be why most of them eventually just give up on doing things like showing stat screens, to remove concepts they don't grasp fully from the writing.
