Seems about right, to a point. They weren't able to restock the boob-nanites, so clearly their hunts haven't been going that well. Then rumors spread about an easy location still possibly having some untouched relics worth a fair bit. The situation pretty much demanded that they take a look, and then "Well since we're already here we might as well keep going for now" managed to overtake the logic behind "Conditions are bad, we should call it off for today."
However, this bad decision got compounded with doubling down on the "We need to stay here," because they essentially decided to trust a larger group of strangers to not be the way hunters are probably known to be towards people outside their own groups. That's the part that's just terminal stupidity. That whole first bit about why they're out here and didn't leave sooner is fair enough, but the other bit does beg the question on a lot of commenters' minds: how are these two still alive? Perhaps the real backstory for these two is that they had a nice streak of dumb luck and it finally ran out, so we end up without enough boob-nanites and their poor decision making finally catches up with them.
That gun at the end should not have been so effective. Assuming it was, then those big monsters would be no threat as they’d be easily hunted with such a rifle and those would be common.

That's an anti-tank rifle, wielded by a nano-augmented person.
It would basically have to be setup on the bipod if used by a regular person. It would also slow down the run speed of anyone carrying it, unless they were augmented in some way, furthermore, it has a low ammo capacity, and against the most common opponent, a regular rifle will take just as many shots to kill with, and it'll have a higher fire rate.
Not to mention how expensive that thing might be.
